Nichelle Nichols, nascida Grace Nichols, (Robbins, Illinois, 28 de dezembro de 1932 - Silver City, 30 de julho de 2022) foi uma atriz, dançarina e cantora norte-americana.

- Eu disse a Gene após o final da primeira temporada que não voltaria ao programa - que queria voltar ao meu primeiro amor, que é o teatro musical, mas não sabia que conhecer um fã de Star Trek mudaria minha vida.
- Disseram-me que um fã queria me conhecer e me virei e olhei para o rosto do Dr. Martin Luther King - estava sem fôlego. Ele disse: "Sim, sou o Trekker - sou um fã de Star Trek". E ele me disse que Star Trek era um dos únicos programas que sua esposa Coretta e ele permitiam que seus filhos pequenos ficassem acordados e assistissem. Agradeci - e disse a ele que estava saindo do show. Todo o sorriso saiu de seu rosto e ele disse: "Você não pode fazer isso." Ele disse: "Você não entende que, pela primeira vez, somos vistos como deveríamos ser vistos? Você não tem um papel negro - você tem um papel igual."
- E voltei ao trabalho na segunda-feira de manhã. Fui ao escritório de Gene e contei a ele o que havia acontecido no fim de semana. E ele disse: "Bem-vindo ao lar. Temos muito trabalho a fazer."

I thanked him — and I told him I was leaving the show. ::All the smile came off his face and he said: "You can’t do that." He said "Don’t you understand that for the first time, we’re seen as we should be seen? You don’t have a Black role — you have an equal role."
- And on I went back to work on Monday morning. I went to Gene’s office and told him what had happened over the weekend. And he said, "Welcome home. We have a lot of work to do."
