Michael Polanyi, nascido Polányi Mihály, (Budapeste, 12 de março de 1891 — Northampton, 22 de fevereiro de 1976) foi um polímata húngaro-britânico que fez contribuições teóricas importantes para a físico-química, economia e filosofia.
- O reconhecimento de certas impossibilidades básicas lançou as bases de alguns princípios importantes da física e da química; da mesma forma, o reconhecimento da impossibilidade de compreender as coisas vivas em termos de física e química, longe de estabelecer limites para a nossa compreensão da vida, irá guiá-lo na direção certa. E mesmo se a demonstração dessa impossibilidade não trouxer grande vantagem na busca da descoberta, tal demonstração ajudaria a traçar uma imagem mais verdadeira da vida e do homem do que aquela que nos é dada pelos atuais conceitos básicos da biologia.
