Lewis Carroll, cujo nome verdadeiro era Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, foi um matemático e escritor britânico cujas mais connhecidas obras foram Alice's Adventures in Wonderland e Alice Through the Looking Glass.
- "'You should learn not to make personal remarks,' Alice said with some severity; 'it's very rude.'
The Hatter opened his eyes very wide on hearing this; but all he said was, 'Why is a raven like a writing-desk?'
'Come, we shall have some fun now!' thought Alice. 'I'm glad they've begun asking riddles. -I believe I can guess that,' she added aloud."
- Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
- "'When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, 'it means just what I choose it to mean - neither more nor less.'
'The question is,' said Alice, 'whether you can make words mean so many different things.'
'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master - that's all.'"
- Alice Through the Looking Glass
