«The Torah is not sustained except in one who makes himself like a desert, abandoned alike to poor and rich in knowledge, and not greater than his fellow... and thereby they are united and encompassed one in the other. For the ayin unites a thing and its opposite. . . . Moreover, do not raise your head to the heavens, for it is not in heaven... Now, my beloved brothers and friends, sons of the living G-d, this is the way in which you shall precede, for it is the perfect truth ['emet le-amito']... and the entire Torah is woven along these lines.
